The RightMed test may help you find the right medications for you, based on your genetics.
“We struggled to control Carly’s anxiety and depression for over 10 years,” Carly’s mother, Sandy Klein-Mirviss, says. “It had a hugely negative impact on her quality of life.”
Did you know that medications work differently for different people? Your genes can play a role in how you respond to some medications. Your body may process medications too slowly or too quickly, which may cause side effects or reduce effectiveness.
The RightMed® Test, created by OneOme® (co-founded by Mayo Clinic) is available at no cost to you through your Navitus pharmacy benefit. This test can help you and your health care provider learn how you may respond to certain medications.
If you’ve received an invitation letter, email, call or text from Navitus or your employer, you can now request your RightMed genetic test and get started making your medications more personal.
When your test arrives in a recyclable envelope, you’ll follow the instructions to collect your sample through a simple cheek swab.
Then, register your test and mail it back to the lab using the pre-paid mailing label.
Your RightMed results are delivered to you and your doctor, and interpreted by a Genome Medical pharmacist. You and your doctor can discuss together your results and any medication changes recommended by the pharmacist. Don’t stop taking your medications without talking with your doctor.
No. Your results are shared only with you, your doctor and a Genome Medical pharmacist specialized in understanding how genes influence the body’s response to certain medications.
If you’d like to share them with other members of your care team down the road, you can. Your DNA doesn’t change, so your results continue to be valuable for future use.
No. Your results are one important source of information for you and your care team to consider, along with your medical history and other clinical factors. Many things influence how your medications perform and test results are not a guarantee.
No. Your results are shared with you and your doctor. We do not sell or share your results with your insurer, government agencies, or anyone else. The RightMed test covers 27 genes and more than 100 alleles focused on those proven to impact how you respond to medications. It does not cover your complete genome, look for things like disease risk, or hereditary genetic disorders.
Your test sample is held onsite for 60 days, after which it is destroyed. Your test results are handled and stored with utmost security to meet or exceed strict requirements outlined in the Health Insurance Portability and Accessibility Act (HIPAA) and applicable state law requirements.
Yes! Your DNA doesn’t change – so your results will be valuable in informing new prescriptions you may need down the road. Enrolling in the program now will ensure your results are ready when you need them, so your treatment can begin more quickly.
